While Bond 25 lurks in delayed-film hell, Star Wars: The Last Jedi writer-director Rian Johnson has snatched up James Bond himself for his next movie. Johnson has been a longtime fan of Daniel Craig, and quickly cast him as the lead detective in Knives Out. The film will be a modern-day murder-mystery and has been a passion project of sorts for the filmmaker.
Johnson cites detective novelist Agatha Christie as a major inspiration for Knives Out, saying he has admired her work since childhood. He has wanted to make his own “impossible crime” mystery for a while and finally finished the screenplay this past summer. Knives Out is set to start production in November, and is a hot auction item at TIFF this week.
