Can’t wait to see this wicked smile in action as the mad scientist Dr. Niles “The Chief” Caulder
For anyone who’s familiar with the Doom Patrol team, you know these are a particularly unique group of heroes — even for comic books.
Some, like me, might best remember the Doom Patrol from the two-part episode “Homecoming” in the original Teen Titans show. They were the group that essentially raised Beast Boy, and in the present helped the Titans take down the Brotherhood of Evil.

We’ll see this same line-up in the new DC Universe series (minus the somewhat unlikable Mento), plus: Cyborg, Dr. Niles “The Chief” Caulder, Mr. Nobody, and Crazy Jane. And instead of the Titans’ “Elasti-Girl”, the hero will have her original name: Elasti-Woman.
They all share the misfortune of being misfits of the most extreme kinds, whose powers have resulted in their being ostracized from others or even bring harm to themselves. Seeing their abilities as a curse rather than a gift, it will take the leadership of “The Chief” (Timothy Dalton) and Cyborg (Joivan Wade from The First Purge) to give them purpose as budding superheroes.
“The Chief” in particular is crucial to the team, as his medical prowess and drive to help the world’s underdogs essentially make him the glue that holds the Doom Patrol together. Dalton will make a wickedly wonderful mad scientist, with his past roles in Penny Dreadful and Hot Fuzz bearing witness to his talent.
