My countdown of horror releases continues with 2009’s Zombieland!
For those who don’t know, this month I’m going to be highlighting the horror films that were released each day leading up to Halloween. On this day nine years ago, what is perhaps the second most infamous zombie-comedy opened in theaters, officially introducing audiences to the iconic double tap rule (among many others).
ZOMBIELAND (2 October 2009)
Dir. Ruben Fleischer | 90% on Rotten Tomatoes
It’s thanks to this movie that Woody Harrelson saying “it’s time to nut up or shut up” is forever burned into my brain. Zombieland is a pretty unique movie with a relatively badass cast, all tied together with its fresh humor and (of course) brain-thirsty zombies. In fact, before World War Z premiered in 2013, Zombieland was the highest grossing zombie flick in the US at 102.4 million USD — beating previous champ Dawn of the Dead (2004). Some good news for fans of the zomedy: ten years after Zombieland‘s release we are finally getting a sequel! There apparently may be a few surprises in store for our heroes in this follow-up film as well…
